David K. Spencer

CPA

Manager, Tax

Services: ASC 740 Tax Provision, Corporate Tax

Industries: Blockchain & Digital Assets, FinTech, Manufacturing and Wholesale, Nonprofit

Project name

David helps individuals and businesses navigate one of the most technically demanding areas of tax today: the world of digital assets and blockchain. Clients come to David when they need someone who can decipher how cryptocurrency transactions work and what that means for their tax position.

What separates David from a generalist is his ability to work at the intersection of tax law and blockchain mechanics. Determining cost basis for digital assets requires more than relying on exchange-issued tax forms, which are frequently incomplete. Historical pricing can be difficult to reconstruct, and moving assets between platforms creates gaps that most practitioners don’t know how to close. David knows how.

David also advises clients who aren’t blockchain-native but are evaluating whether distributed ledger technology could benefit their operations, helping leadership teams cut through the noise and ask the right questions about practical use cases.

Prior to joining BPM, David served on the Digital Innovation team at a top-10 U.S. accounting firm, where he worked with digital asset clients across the commercial and individual markets. He has also advised healthcare clients and brings additional depth in international taxation and the payments industry. A sought-after speaker, David has presented at conferences and before corporate boards on topics ranging from blockchain fundamentals to the practical business case for digital asset adoption.

David holds certifications from Harvard, IBM, and the Global Blockchain Business Council, reflecting his commitment to staying current at the point where finance, technology, and tax compliance converge.

David Kofi Spencer holds an active CPA License in Florida.

Interesting tidbit

David’s path into crypto started in college during a tutoring session with a calculus student who offered him Bitcoin as payment. It was the first time he heard the term, and it sent him down a rabbit hole of learning about crypto and blockchain.
