Services: Sage Intacct
Sage rolled out its third quarterly update of the year on August 7, 2026, and Release 3 brings a mix of features moving into general availability alongside a fresh batch of early adopter tools. Whether you are managing accounts payable, running a construction shop, or keeping a close eye on fixed assets, this release has something that will likely touch your workflow.
Here’s a rundown of the changes worth your attention, and what they mean for how you close books, manage cash, and serve your organization.
AI Steps Up Fraud Protection in AP Automation
If you have used general ledger outlier detection in Sage Intacct, you already know how the platform flags transactions that do not fit expected patterns. Release 3 extends that same AI-driven anomaly detection logic to AP Automation.
The system now reviews incoming vendor invoices and flags anomalies by amount, vendor email account, or duplicate submissions, giving your accounts payable team a faster way to catch fraud before it hits your books. This is a meaningful upgrade for organizations protecting not just their accounting records, but their cash.
Smarter Tools for Construction, Order Entry and Lending
Three general availability features stand out for organizations managing complex billing and financing needs.
- Advanced Retainage for Subcontracts. Construction clients can now apply advanced, tiered retainage percentages by line item rather than relying on a single flat rate. A subcontract line above a certain dollar threshold, for example, can carry a different retainage percentage than a smaller one, with a built-in calculation view so you can see exactly how the system arrived at the number.
- Combined Invoicing in Order Entry. If your organization issues sales invoices from multiple source documents, such as several sales orders or quotes, you can now combine specific lines from different documents into a single invoice. This feature previously existed in purchasing workflow and now extends to order entry, saving time and improving the customer experience by reducing the number of invoices your customers receive.
- Lending Management. After several quarters in preview, Lending Management is now available to subscribe to as a full module. It manages the entire loan lifecycle: generating amortization schedules, calculating and posting interest, invoicing customers on a recurring basis, and applying overpayments to future payments or re-amortizing balances based on your configuration.
Practical Wins for Fixed Assets and the General Ledger
Two updates address longstanding friction points that colleagues in accounting and finance functions will appreciate.
Fixed Asset Management now allows you to reverse an asset disposal instead of only reverting it. Previously, reverting a disposal deleted the original entries, which created audit trail gaps and, in some regions, ran afoul of regulatory requirements. The reversal function preserves the original disposal and its reversal as separate entries, putting the asset back into service with a clean trail behind it.
In the General Ledger, an expandable submenu now sits directly on the main window, giving you quicker access to memorized transactions, transaction templates, and recurring transactions without clicking through several screens. This came directly from user feedback in the Intacct community, and it is a small change that saves real time for power users.
Early Adopter Features Worth Watching
Several capabilities are rolling out through Sage’s early adopter program, meaning your organization may see them appear before they reach general availability.
- Finance Intelligence Agent. This natural language tool aggregates data across your entire Sage Intacct system and lets you ask questions in plain language, showing its work so you can trust the answer behind the numbers. It is rolling out through a phased release, so watch for a notification when it becomes available to your administrator.
- Smart Excel Reporting. A new embedded Excel add-in lets you build reports tied to live Sage Intacct data and refresh them on demand. It will not replace a tool like Velixo since it cannot write data back into the system, but it gives you formatted, verifiable reporting without leaving Excel, all while respecting your existing roles and permissions.
- Use Tax in Purchasing. Organizations using Avalara can now enable use tax calculations directly in the purchasing module, helping close the gap when sales tax was not collected or fully collected.
- Embedded Customer Payment Services. Enhancements bring better automated payment tracking and reconciliation, plus the ability for customers to pay and check their balance directly from an invoice email.
- Automated Prepaid Expense Amortization. A true product-managed module (replacing the older, informally developed version) now lets you set up recognition schedules and monitor prepaid balances with far less manual tracking in Excel.
A Few More Under the Hood
Release 3 also includes:
- An emerging AI Agent Marketplace, where select partners will offer agents to automate tasks inside Sage Intacct
- The ability to block promotional vendor emails from AP Automation’s document processing
- Streamlined processing for customer refunds
- A preview of full invoice populations for billing group
- Expanded cost forecast history for organizations using WIP management in project costing
What This Means for Your Organization
Sage Intacct’s quarterly release cadence reflects a broader pattern: reducing friction in everyday workflows while steadily building out AI capability across the platform. Not every feature in Release 3 will apply to your organization today, but understanding what is available, and what is coming through the early adopter pipeline, helps you plan rather than react later.
