Mike Ruane is a Managing Director in BPM’s Advisory practice and specializes in providing valuation services and financial analysis to clients of all sizes for diverse purposes. He has performed services related to enterprise/equity valuation, stock option pricing, complex securities, intangible assets/purchase price allocations, estate and gift planning, and shareholder disputes.
Mike has experience valuing businesses in many industries, including technology, life science, software, gaming, medical device and transportation, to name a few. These engagements required extensive financial analysis and included preparing and defending reports for SEC, IRS, audit, tax review, as well as general litigation and other purposes.
In the past, Mike performed multiple valuations for the purpose of granting stock options pursuant to ASC 718/IRS 409a for a company that had decided to dual track a potential sale or a public offering of its shares. The company ultimately went public and, in addition to providing assistance on the option grants prior to the IPO, he provided substantial support throughout the audit review from a Big-Four firm.
He also performed a valuation of a performance-based restricted share units for a public company client who needed to determine the fair value of the PBRSUs on the date of grant for financial reporting purposes.
Clients describe him as a focused problem solver who is understanding of value drivers.
Mike has over 30 years of valuation experience, with over 21 years at boutique firms in the San Francisco Bay Area. He received BBA and MBA degrees from Loyola University Chicago. Mike holds the Accredited Senior Appraiser (Business Valuation) designation from the American Society of Appraisers, where he serves on the Board of Examiners.
